Momma takes me to see Wagner's Ring cycle every four years. This is the week! Tonight, we (the audience) meet Brunhilde, my favorite Tomboy role model. She starts off in the cycle as a carefree daughter of Woton, carrying fallen dead warriors to live on in Vallhalla with the gods. She rides a horse and is fearless. After her misadventures, her final act is that of returning the stolen gold (long story) to the Rheinmaidens, thus restoring (and redeeming) herself and the Gods. Trust me - the real hero of Lord of the Rings was not Frodo - it was Sam. Similarly, the hero model here fails in this task, but his bride, Brunhilde, is the real hero.
Long story ... you will either have to trust me, or see the cycle for yourself.
Enjoy! Tomboy Vicki
PS - this time around, the music and casting seems to be exceptionally crisp and vibrant. If you can still get a ticket for any one or all four, it's strongly recommended. I liked Die Walkure because it's the introduction of Brunnhilde, and it has the famous "Flight of the Valkyrie [Walkure]" in it. The chorus of the Walkure is exceptional (Act III). Also Brunnhilde is perfect casting.
