At the request of the audience, skin care made simple!
First, a disclaimer: yes, I sell Mary Kay products. I love them. If you want to try some, let me know - I can get you some samples to try. I do it all the time.
OKAY. Stage one: the most basic, single thing your average tomboy can do is SUNSCREEN. At this latitude, I go for something in the SPF 25-30 range. If I'm outside all day, I reapply every couple of hours. Got it? SUNSCREEN. Make sure you hit the back of your neck, your ears, the back of your hands, and any skin that might get hit by sunlight. Funny story - I was hiking at altitude (about 18,000 feet at the summit) and pulled out my sunscreen (when I remembered it) and it was too cold and too thick to apply. That, plus reflection off snow, and I had burns on my face, hands, and neck (plus up my nose and in the roof of my mouth). LESSON LEARNED. SUNSCREEN ONLY WORKS IF YOU USE IT. Got it? Use it - daily is best, even if it's cloudy. Even if you don't plan on going outside. Your skin, long-term, will thank you.
Stage two: The two single most important things to build into your daily routine: Cleansing, and moisturizing. I do these twice a day, religiously and faithfully. It's not botox - I won't pretend it is - but my skin is clearer and softer. Got it? Cleansing, and moisturizing, in that order. Both morning and evening before bed.
Stage three: you do all of the above already? It's time to add a product with a fine grit, to gently (GENTLY) abrade away the dead skin cells. Sometimes, this is called "microdermabrasion" as a product. Twice a week. I picked Wednesday and Sunday, just to make it easy to remember. Again - it's no botox - but it adds a refinement of texture.
There is miles more you can add to this, but the above is maybe the simplest routine I can concoct. It's easy, it's real, and it doesn't have to be expensive (unless you want to get expensive department store products).
Furthermore - the improvement in texture, means that makeup looks smoother and more professional. IF YOU USE MAKEUP AT ALL! - and most tomboys I know, use it maaaaybe twice a year.
Next up: tomboy makeup - how to wear it to improve your appearance without looking madeup. Works for me in my professional life, adds a more polished appearance, but I don't feel like I'm wearing makeup! *wink*
Love it! I am not such a tomboy but nice to have some priorities in mind when I don't have the time for my entire "girlie girlie" routine!
ReplyDeleteThanks for stopping by, unknown "not such a tomboy"! :-)
